International Rally Of Queensland
Brisbane Area WICEN Group Inc
Hi All,
It is time for me to start involving more people to ensure the 2015 International Rally of Queensland Communications Team is able to provide a professional level of communications support to this years event.
As in previous years, Brisbane Area WICEN Group, with the support of Amateur Radio Operators primarily from the South East of Queensland, again has a role in providing a Safety Communications Network and a Scoring Network from field locations back to Rally HQ. The Rally will be conducted on Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June 2015. Set Up is planned for the Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th June 2015. Both voice and data networks are used. If you do not have or use packet radio, do not despair; we can still use you on the voice network.
We are in need of quite a few radio operators and assistants to ensure these networks are able to be run efficiently and with a minimum of fuss. The opportunity to renew friendships and get to know the faces behind the voices of many on air contacts is always available during the rally.
If you can assist with communications during this event, and it may only be one day that you may be able to assist, or if you know of anyone who may be able to assist, and they don’t necessarily have to be licensed amateurs, please pass a copy of this to them or contact me, Bob Guppy, VK4ZL, mailto:bobvk4zl@gmail.com This is also an ideal opportunity to check your portable equipment (both voice and data) in the field and to participate in the friendly atmosphere and camaraderie this event generates. If you have never participated before, here is an opportunity to try something new. If you have assisted previously and enjoyed yourself, try and convince your friends and mates to come along as well.
My intention is to post regular updates with details as they come to hand from now to the time of the Rally. If anyone would like to assist with the admin and preparation of this event, please send me an email.
The first co-ordination meetings at the BSCC have occurred and the course is similar to that used in past years, so if you have a preferred location, let me know early so I can reserve that location for you. There will NOT be a Super Special Stage at the Nambour showgrounds this year, but there will be a Power Stage for selected categories in the Beerburrum Forestry. Further details as they come to hand.

You can start your efforts now by Marking Your Calendars NOW!!! Put a BIG RED circle around the 19th, 20th and 21st June 2015.
Please email for the WICEN Registration form. This is required for Insurance purposes. When you email the completed form, ensure you change the file name to include your call sign so I don’t receive a pile of registration emails with the same file attached.

CAR RALLY 2003 REPORT
Brisbane Area WICEN Group CAR RALLY REPORT 2003
Last weekend the Caloundra's Falken Rally Queensland organised by the Brisbane Sporting Car Club took place.
The Brisbane Area WICEN Group Inc. with assistance of Amateur Operators from as far North as Rockhampton and as far South as Melbourne, manned the start and stop points and transmitted the start times and scored times using packet, to rally headquarters at Caloundra.
In addition an Amateur Radio Operator was positioned at all of the Safety On Stage points situated every 5kms along the track.
Portable voice repeaters were set up on Mt Borumba and Mt Kandanga, while packet was relayed from the field to Mt Kandanga, digipeated to Maleny then on to Rally base at Caloundra.
This year saw a major upgrade of the group's equipment with the voice repeaters being linked together by UHF, so that most of the operators were able to sign on to Mt Kandanga when they left home for the exercise.
Also the scoring software had to be rewritten to allow for scoring to 1/10 of a second.
Special thanks must go to Nev VK4TX who took 3 weeks annual leave just to prepare for the event. Thanks must also go to the Sunshine Coast Radio Club who organised the scoring of the "Hella Hill Climb" and to the Queensland Digital Group for their assistance with organising the equipment upgrade. Also to Brian VK4XS who had to revise his software.
VK4TX says in the lead up to the official presentations at the ARC dinner the Clerk of the Course acknowledged each of the major sponsors by name and made a general thanks to the other sponsors. Then he made the following statement (words to this effect): "I acknowledge the assistance provided by many people and by the WICEN group who have the best meals on Mt Kandanga. WICEN are amateur radio Operators who provided us with the scores and safety communications during the event. Without them we would not be able to have this event."
Again, Neville says congratulations on your professional service provided to the ARC. "All I can do is to congratulate each of you on a job well done".
